Your potential customer is searching the internet right now. They’re looking for something specific and when they find it, they’ll make a purchase or engage services for their needs. How can you be that business? Part of the equation is SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. SEO is a factor when a search engine displays websites to their users; the more optimized your website is, the higher up in search results you’ll appear.38633188_M (1)

Not many visits are given to those results that appear on the second, third or fourth page – the first page of results receive 95% of the traffic! Here’s what you can optimize now to get one step closer to the coveted first page spots.

Title of post. If you have a business blog, did you know that you can have two different post titles? One can be written to optimize for search engine queries and the other can be more conversational and relaxed.

Meta description. The meta description is the paragraph or so that’s displayed underneath your website title in search results. The meta description should be a summary of what that post or page is about. If the word or phrase being searched for appears in this description, it’ll appear bold for the user on their results page.

Alt text. Have you ever done a Google Image search? This is where the alt text comes into play most often. In the alt text field of any image you’ll want to very briefly describe what the image is. Remember to tie in your focus keyword somehow because alt text is yet another area search engines “read.” As a bonus, using alt text correctly on images makes your site accessible to those with screen readers.

SEO doesn’t have to be complicated, and often times it’s pretty straightforward. An update here and there can make a big difference in traffic to your website and customers who walk through your virtual door.
